In Conversation with Emily Foskett

Founder of jewellery brand, Emily Mortimer Jewellery

AJ’s blazers have embroidered quotes inside them – what is your fave inspiring quote?
‘Everything happens for a reason’ is my favourite quote. Life tends to throw us challenges when we least expect it and even at the time when it might feel like the worst thing in the world, often we come out stronger and hopefully better.

What is the best part of having your own business?
The freedom, the responsibility and going to an event where everyone is wearing my designs, that feeling just never gets old. Often, I have to make jewellery for a loved one and that one special moment makes up for all the ridiculously tough bits of having my own business worth it.

What’s your shopping philosophy?
For some of us it comes naturally to make quick decisions and others it’s a slower process. If someone can’t decide on a piece of jewellery or the colour way they want it I often suggest to wait, go for a wander and if they are still thinking about it in an hour or the next day it is meant to be. Oh, and there is no such thing as having too much jewellery.

How do you unwind away from your business?
For me it is all about family and friends, being outside in the country or by the sea with a gin & tonic and maybe some seafood.

Do you have any exciting new plans or products for EM?
We are about to launch the prettiest white topaz initial bracelets for Mother’s Day. They will add just the right amount of sparkle, work perfectly layered or be the ideal personalised gift for you or someone you love. EM is going through a bit of change right now and we are predominantly going back online which we are so excited about so watch this space.

Another inspiring woman in business?
I am a huge admirer of Trinny Woodhall after attending a talk with her last year and listening to her story. She has created the most phenomenal brand and sought after makeup, her dress sense is impeccable and she just seems to grab life with both hands and really take risks in business. My Dad has always encouraged me to say yes and take the risk because often even if it fails you are not going to know until you do it. So say YES!

What does your dream blazer look like?
It would have to be fitted, double breasted, maybe with a checked fabric, quite long, neutral colours and maybe a metallic button somewhere? I absolutely love your Prince of Wales blazer.
